Last weekend I went to see the movie The Help. While the storyline itself was great, what really made the movie stand out for me, a fashion lover, was, of course, the wardrobe of all of the characters! The costume designer got it right…not only did each outfit fit the setting/time period, but each outfit also fit the character (and their personal style, I’d like to think).
In honor of such fabulous eye candy, I thought we’d do a Get the Look post for the movie!
First up, is a look Celia wore while talking on the phone out by her pool:
(image)
Due to its superb tailoring, this sunny little romper looks like it was made for her. The sunglasses, earrings, bangle, and hair styling complete this look. Celia looks put together, but not in too fussy a way at all.
Obviously, while finding an exact match would be hard, I think I came up with some darling alternatives!
Nine Lives Shades – $24
Passiflora Posts (white) – $28
ASOS Current/Elliott The Sweatheart Romper Suit - on sale for $109.77 (down from $457.38!)
ASOS F-Troop Bow Wedge Sandals (sand) – on sale for $93.30
Urban Outfitters Diament Jewelry for Urban Renewal Vintage Horn Cuff – $39
Though a completely different color than our inspiration, this romper still shares many similar characteristics, the most important of which being the tailored, structured feel. It also possesses a retro feel which certainly works well. The sweet earrings and simply shaped cuff add just the right amount of interest, as do the mildly cat-eye sunglasses and adorable bow wedges.
I think I could see Celia frolicking in this look, don’t you think? And would you wear this look? I would love to own this romper!
Up next, a look worn by Elizabeth:

(sorry, I know this isn’t the best picture, but it’s the best I could find!)

I loved the earrings Elizabeth wore throughout the movie…she repeatedly wore similar ones, and the style became part of her signature look. Here’s a better picture of the earrings:

Piperlime Tinley Road Pearl Flower Stud Earring - $16
Banana Republic The Mad Men Collection Pearl Brooch Necklace – $39.50
Banana Republic The Mad Men Collection Begonia Print Dress (red combo) – $150
J Crew Valentina Pumps (weathered rose) – $228
This beautifully cut dress acts as the foundation for this extremely classy and sophisticated look. “Weathered rose” pumps kick the look up a notch, as do the earrings and necklace. No doubt you’ll be respected in this commanding, yet still ultra feminine look!
Would you wear this look?
Which of the two looks are you lusting after more? And did any of you see The Help? What did you think? Wasn’t the clothing fabulous though?!
P.S. I have another post coming up today with a delicious recipe - no, not Minny’s famous chocolate pie, but a different delightful treat!
P.P.S. Carol is hosting a virtual bookclub on the book version of The Help! Read more here!

First of all, oops! I told you in my last post I’d be checking in in a week…and I fully intended to do so. Somehow though, I got it in my head that I posted that post last Tuesday, which would make today the one week mark. Obviously, I just checked the date of my last post and realized it actually was posted on a Monday! Oops! Sorry!
Anyway, I definitely need to follow-up on that post. Summed up, I’m still not positive about what I’m going to do. I’m toying around with quite a few different ideas, but I haven’t settled on any single one for good yet. Therefore, I think it’s going to be another week off at this point before any major news. I thank you so much for sticking this identity crisis out with me.
And I DO have some good news…I’ve got a styling for you today! It’s a just-for-fun sort of styling; that is, no major back story, but nonetheless, I hope you’ll enjoy it!
ASOS Button Back Dress with Long Sleeves – $77.58
J. Crew Medina Heels in Leather and Calf Hair – $350
Milly Amelia Oversized Clutch – $345
Anthropologie Victorian Onyx Ring - $1000 (you read that right. reaaaalllllyyyy, Anthro?!)
By the way, did you see the back of this dress?? Seriously, I’m loving small details like this recently in garments that really set a piece a part and make it unique.

I’m loving the gorgeous vintage ring and classic clutch paired with the bold, graphic animal printed shoes. All of the accessories support and add to the simply cut dress.
Everything in this outfit also has an aire of sophistication. The complete outfit will be sure to get tons and tons of compliments because you’ll be gracefully standing out from the crowd with all of the sublimely beautiful details!
How is everyone doing? Once again, thanks for your incredible support and beyond-kind kind words. I’ll be checking in shortly!

I just adore this 1920s inspired dress:
It’s the Leatrice Dress ($268). It has loads of vintage appeal, but definitely with a modern edge. It’s a LBD (little black dress), and it also reminds me of Chanel for some reason or another (besides the LBD connection). And it has an assymetric hem! *passing out!*
I have no clue at all what this would look like on, but there’s no harm in trying it, right?! ….But, the price. Oh, the price. It’s expensive.
…But…if I try it on and it’s absolutely spectacular, I could justify it, right?!
I mean, just look at it!
Here’s to hoping I can find it in store soon!
Anyone share my love for this beauty?!

Guess what?! My DIY baking notes are officially complete – i.e. they’re “bound” and in a homemade cover! I’m so pleased with the results and I can’t wait to take you through the process, step by step, tomorrow (and of course show more pictures of the finished product!)! In the mean time, I’m going to give you a little teaser, in the form of this picture, and two words: vintage fabric!
Any clues as to how I made the cover?! Stay tuned!
