So, what did you think of the fashion last night at the SAG Awards?! My overall verdict? Not too shabby! No, I’m not totally swooning over anyone’s look, but there really weren’t too many total disasters either! Shall we take a closer look?

Natalie, oh, Natalie! I watched the red carpet arrivals on E! with Guiliana Rancic acting as the interviewer and it was said many times, “Baby bumps are the new black!” Whether you want to believe this or not is up to you, but I can certainly say that I’m, once again, disappointed with Natalie’s look! I know I said this for the Golden Globes, but I really would have liked to see her in something fitted. Nonetheless, even if I’m just judging what she actually wore, I’m still not happy! The dress didn’t seem to fit her right – it was a wrinkled mess underneath her bump. When she came on stage to present, you could tell it was freshly steamed – and when she won, not too long after this, the dress was already a huge wrinkled mess (luckily you could only really see her from the bust up once she got on stage!). I mean, this picture even shows some of the wrinkles (they were worse when she won her award). And the hair? Although it doesn’t look too, too bad in this picture, it actually didn’t seem to flatter her face at all.

Oh, my. Well, Helena definitely improved from the Globes. Hey – she’s wearing matching shoes, at least! Obviously, this look is far from good though. Do you think she should continue to try to be more subdued or do you think she should just be her crazy self and accept not being best dressed (or would that make her best dressed for you?)? I want to hear your thoughts!

Yes, this is pretty enough. Is it stunning? Not really. But I’m okay with it. It’s not too shabby. And what do you think of the hair? I wasn’t a huge fan…

Yay! Nicole didn’t wear white! I would still love to see her in color though (not red…but another color). I really don’t mind this dress though. The back was stunning (loved the exaggerated fabric zipper pull) and I like the boning-like lines throughout the dress. The necklace worked well. Her hair though? A bit stringy. Overall, she’s not best dressed, but definitely not worst dressed!

First, let’s just say, “Way to go, Amy!” She recently had a baby, and she looks terrific. This fabric definitely shows everything. When she was being interviewed by Giuliana, I thought that, for that reason, the dress didn’t work as well. However, from a picture like this, it doesn’t look half bad! I do think the dress made her look a bit flat-chested though.

Sure from the bust up this looks fine, but otherwise, not so much. I mean, it’s just not flattering! And the fact that you can easily make out those seams isn’t great (that wasn’t what the designer was looking for)….

I know this may seem harsh, but I’m just saying that I don’t think the dress does her justice. She could do better.

I definitely can appreciate where Jennifer was going with this…however, the shoes just made it way too clunky. Oscar de la Renta (the designer of this dress) is known for his soft, feminine designs, so her choice of hairstyle seems like she was trying to go a different direction. In the end, it seems like a bit disjointed of a look. And probably the biggest question under debate with this dress is: should the bow be black or pink? You tell me.

Hailee really impressed with her age appropriate look at the Globes, and again, she did not disappoint (she’s 15). She wore one of the trends of the night – bright colors…orange and red primarily. The simplicity of the dress is refreshing and suits her well.

Annette’s tamed hair certainly looked better than it did at the Globes! I also can appreciate her age appropriate dress that still has an interesting cut (the back was really nice). She’s definitely not my best dressed though.

The handbag definitely is not working for Winona, but other than that, it’s not too, too bad. However, the whole look is a bit wedding-ish, don’t-cha think?

I really appreciated Kim’s apparent desire to look a bit more classy with this look! The Marchesa dress look nice, and her make-up wasn’t too heavy!

This, too, even though it was a pale pink, seemed a little wedding dress-reminiscent to me (for those of you who watch Say Yes to the Dress, tell me it wasn’t a bit Pnina Tornai like – I mean, wasn’t it?!)! I didn’t think this dress was anything we haven’t seen before either, so while Angie’s not worst dressed, she’s not best dressed either.

Sofia certainly showed off her body in this dress, which I think worked for the most part. Not my best dressed though…

I really appreciate the risk Julie took with this jumpsuit…it was a lot different from her Globes dress! At first I wasn’t so sure, but it’s started to grow on me…she looks fresh and modern!

Jenna! You could do so much better than this! It’s not worst-dressed material, but still!

This was a nice change from Lea’s Globes dress. It makes her look young, fresh, and modern. Is it love though? No.

I really appreciate that Jane went out of her comfort zone with this, but I’m not so sure it worked.

This difficult color to wear worked pretty well, and the dress was pretty enough. Her hair and make up were nice too, but she’s not best dressed worthy.

Amber, once again, picked a great dress that works for her body perfectly!

Dianna took a risk with this hemline! I’m not totally in love with the look though. I’m thinking the dress probably was a lot more stunning in person. What do you think?

Heather looks beautiful in this dress…but she’s not best dressed for me!

I really liked the colors of this look – the contrast between her earrings and the dress is great! The dress probably could have done a little more for her though…

This was pretty enough – it definitely had simplicity going for it. Not best dressed though…

This was really nice. I liked the earrings that paired perfectly and helped to add interest!

No. Sorry, but no.

Hooray! Hooray! Seriously guys – hooray! Tina usually is in need of major help when it comes to her red carpet looks, but she nailed it this time! I’m not even going to say, “Oh, this is an improvement!” but rather, “Man! I love this!” The dress is oh so pretty, and her hair complements it nicely! I’m not saying she’s my best dressed, but she’s up in my top 10 for sure, maybe even top 5!

Jane looked like an age appropriate, glowing mother-to-be!

I loved how Claire, who looked divine at the Globes, went for something quite different this time around. I think it really was lovely, although the belt doesn’t work 100% for me.

Yes, this is a gorgeously draped dress, but if you’re just looking at the cut, it’s rather unoriginal. The coloring definitely adds some flair, but I’m not so sure I love it. Actually, I know I don’t love it. Not close to worst dressed though!

I’m glad Eva took a risk and strayed from her norm, but Eva…oh, Eva! It just doesn’t work! It looks as though she wore the tall version instead of the needed petite. The waist hits her too low, making her look shorter than she is!

And now, for my personally two favorites:

There is absolutely no denying that this is one gorgeous dress (Alexander McQueen!)! She carried it off beautifully too!

I know some of you are probably thinking I’m crazy – this look is probably one of the most controversial of the night (her Globes dress was too!). Granted, I don’t think this is the best photograph, and I’ll also admit it took a bit for this to grow on me, but grow on me it did! It was different and fit her perfectly. Her hair was also the perfect complement! Love!

Now, please vote for your best dressed! Then, please vote for three (3 each!!) ladies whose looks you want to be used as inspiration for an Anthro head-to-toe styling! Thanks!

Thanks for voting! If you have any other thoughts, I’d be excited to hear in the comments!

EDIT: I wrote this post several days ago, and although I was sure I posted it, I just realized that evidently I only saved a draft of it! Oops! Anyway, I thought I’d still share it – better late than never, right?!

As many of you might already know, Anthro has a tiny sneak preview of their wedding line, set to be unveiled on February 14. If you haven’t yet seen this little preview, YOU MUST CLICK HERE!!!

P.S. I’m already swooning, and I’ve barely seen anything. How ’bout you?

“You know you’re Anthro obsessed when ___________________.”

Fill in the blank! Do it in the comments! It’ll be fun!

I’ll go first. And let me say I’ve known I’ve been Anthro obsessed for a long time, so I’m not going to give a long list of reasons. Rather, I’ll give one example that pertains to my day yesterday. Here’s mine:

You know you’re Anthro obsessed when your instincts lead you to picking out look-alike pieces subconsciously.

It’s a true story. Yesterday I was in Macys and saw a pair of shoes I immediately fell in love with. Their simplicity was alluring and I knew that if they were styled correctly, they could be perfection. Well, trying them on sealed the deal. Oh, and  they were on sale, nearly 50% off!

Then, last night, I was just doing my usual Anthro website musings. And that’s when I realized that the shoes I had fallen in love with were very similar to a pair of Anthro shoes. No, they’re no complete look-alikes in style or color, but very similar.

Anthro’s version:

Rasmus Booties (green) – $148

(I used them in a styling here!)

My shoes are a bronze color with the tiniest bit of sparkle in them. It’s a very subtle sparkle though, making the shoes sophisticated and unique. Ya, I’m in love. I can’t wait to wear them! (And for the record, I scored my shoes for about $50 – on sale – and that’s nearly 70% off Anthro’s version!)

Now it’s your turn. Fill in the blank. Again, you don’t have to list all of your reasons (you may though!), but rather you can just give one example. I can’t wait to read what you have to say!

Finally: psst….aren’t you excited for the SAG Awards tonight?!?!!??!?! I’m talking about the fashion, you know!

Yesterday I gave a review of my Bluefly personal shopper experience. If you missed it, be sure to check it out! Well, anyway, today I decided to give the experience another shot. Yes, it was only a day from my first try, but I wanted to see what another personal shopper could do with my same task (personal shoppers are randomly assigned). I just couldn’t resist the urge!

Here are the swimsuits I was shown, in order (from beginning to end):

I was first shown this one, but I cannot seem to find a picture! Darn!

Once again, I cannot find a picture of the next suit! But it was this one!

Next up was this:

Then, this one:

Next was this elegant one, which I also can’t find a picture of!

And then, it was this one:

Recognize it?! You should! It was shown to me by my previous personal shopper! When I told the current personal shopper that I liked it alright, but prefered the version below, she commented on how she was going to show me that one next!

And I came to the conclusion that I prefer this one the best out of Bluefly’s options for my budget. However, I didn’t pull the trigger and buy it because I’m convinced I’ll be able to find something cheaper I like even more…I’m thinking of looking at Urban Outfitters!

Anyway, this time, my experience was much better! My personal shopper asked great questions, such as my hair color and which colors I gravitate towards. I asked my personal shopper the other day what colors would probably look good on my skin tone and received no response, but this time my personal shopper told me thought jewel tones might be nice (and I agree!)! Additionally, she kept in mind my height (I’m short at just around 5 feet tall!)! And so, now, based on this experience alone, I can fully recommend the free service!

Some of you had asked me how to take advantage of the service, and the way I originally did was by chance…I was browsing, and a little pop up asked me if I would like to use the service. This time, I knew about the service, so I searched the site and found out how to connect with a personal shopper immediately. To do so, click this link. Then, scroll down and on the left it should have something about chat titled “Online Concierge” (you click the link and you’re connected instantly!). It should be noted that they don’t have the service 24-7, and if it’s not available at the moment, a message will say, “Chat is unavailable at this time. Please try again later.”

I hope you’ll give the service a try – it’s kind of fun – and tell me how it goes (and keep in mind I am not affiliated nor endorsed by Bluefly in anyway…this is my honest opinion)!

Today, we’re finishing off the last of our 2011 Golden Globe “duties,” if you will! What does that entail? Revealing our first place winner, and then creating stylings based off of the lady’s dress! To recap, Dianna Argon was our first place winner and Angelina Jolie was our second place winner (click the names to see their stylings). And who is our first place winner, as voted to this prestigious position by you?

…

…

…

…

None other than my personal best dressed pick, Anne Hathaway!

Anne looks in shape, stunning, edgy, and thoroughly modern! Her make-up is not overdone either – just perfect!

On Holiday Sweater – $88

Longji Terrace Tank – $78

Petaled Batik Shorts – $98

El Penon Platforms – $638

Submerged Treasure Ring (gold) – $38

Yes, this certainly is a warmer weather look…but nonetheless, I think it really works! The monochromatic color scheme is anything but boring due to all of the textures involved. The slouchy cardigan paired with the gorgeous chunky wedges creates an effortless vibe.

Gathering Blossoms Top – $118

Joe’s Skinny Visionaire – $167

To Extremes Platform Mules – $110

Flecked Loops Necklace – $158

Pair this gorgeous top that’s structured, but not overly so, with the impeccably tailored dark wash skinny jeans. Add the fun clog-like shoes and a subtly colorful necklace to add even more interest! Gorgeous!

And here are a couple of other pieces that could evoke a similar feeling as Anne’s look:

Dipped Hem Mini (gray) – $88

 Back Porch Blouse – $98

So tell me: Were you expecting Anne to win our little styling competition? If not, who were you expecting? And also, which of the two looks do you like best?

Finally, don’t fret that this was the last post in the Golden Globes series…the SAG Awards are on Sunday and you know what that means! Be prepared for a fun post on Monday and the following days after that! (But I will be posting before Monday, so be sure to check back!)! We’re only getting started with award season!

Review: Testing Out an Online Personal Shopper

Note: This is not Anthro related, but very much apparel-related. Hope you’ll read!

In a few months, I’m planning on going on a tropical vacation. Needless to say, I’m already thinking of a bathing suit! I’ve perused Anthro’s swimwear possibilities, and while I love some of them, the prices are high. So, I’m also exploring other possibilities…and today, I looked at Bluefly.

Like on J. Crew’s website, while shopping online you can chat with a personal shopper. I decided to give it a shot today! At this point, I should note that I’ve only bought one item from Bluefly before – a spring-weight trench coat that I simply adore (I wore it constantly for my joint London/France trip this past spring!)!

Here was my criteria that I started out by explaining to my personal shopper: I want something unique – maybe sort of unexpected – but it can’t break the bank (i.e. ideally $50-ish, but knowing that is not much, up to $150 for something spectacular). I told her my size (00-0 or XXS-XS), and then anxiously awaited her response! Before she got to showing me ideas, she gave a list of some body types and asked me to let her know what my body is best defined. I responded that it’s athletic, but with a pretty defined waist….and then it was back to holding my breath in anticipation!

And…the first option was this:

*I have to apologize that I can not seem to get a larger version of some of the pictures! To see them better click on the link above.

I told her it was okay, but I wasn’t in love. I wasn’t a huge fan of the print, nor the “tubes” on the middle of the top and on the bottoms. Secretly, though, to myself I thought that we were off to good start!

And then she showed me this:

This is where the experience started to get a little off track from where I hoped it would be. To myself, I thought: How is this unique?!

I held back my minor shock though, and politely said I thought it looked a bit outdated. I did say, however, that I thought the striped version of the suit was nicer. Then, hoping for some expert advice, asked her what colors she thought might look good on my pale (with red hues) skin tone. She avoided this question by just saying maybe the striped would look better, and then proceeded to show me this:

Once again, I thought to myself that aside from the print, there was nothing exciting, special, or unique about this suit. And honestly, I kind of hated the print. However, as I was throughout this whole conversation, and how I believe people should always treat one another, I politely told her that aside from the print I didn’t think it was very unique (and that I wasn’t a fan of the print). I also went on to say that maybe I should clarify…although it would be great if the pattern was a little unique, I’m more interested in the suit’s overall cut being unique.

And then, I was a bit taken aback. She said in an almost a snippy tone (although it’s the internet, so I can’t say for sure) that most suits in my budget are classic, simple styles. Perhaps that’s true…and that’s something I just have to accept with my budget (I even acknowledged this to her), but considering she’s supposed to be a personal shopper, I was hoping to at least explore the best possibilities available to me. Isn’t that her job? Or were my expectations a bit too high? Perhaps a bit of both.

We exchanged a few more words clarifying once again by what I meant by “unique,” and I thanked her for her patience.

She then showed me this:

This was more on the right track, and I told her so. However, I also was not a huge fan of the “holes” (although the “holes” were what was unique about the suit). Yet again, I thanked her for her patience, considering how picky I can be.

She proceeded to show me this:

This was definitely my favorite she showed me at this point!

Next up, was this one:

I didn’t like this quite as much as the last one, but still was impressed that she seemed to be better understanding my wants.

The next one was this:

I told her it was okay.

And so she showed me this:

I was sensing we were getting further away from what I wanted at this point because while this was not ugly, it wasn’t anything special.

….Alas, I was correct. She informed me she didn’t think there was anything else worth showing me, but that I should check back for new arrivals. Thus, my first ever Bluefly chat with a personal shopper was over.

The verdict? Well, of the swimsuits she showed me, this was my favorite:

However, did I love it so much that I jumped on purchasing it? No.

As you can probably tell, in the end, I wasn’t completely thrilled with my experience. However, I think she tried her best for the most part. Did she give it her all? I’m not sure. Will I consider using this service again? Ya, I’d be willing to.

And that concludes my review. If any of you have any questions, let me know! Also, I’d be very interested to hear about any of your own personal experiences you might have had with this service! And finally, I can’t help but wish Anthro had something like this!!!!

SURPRISE! Oh, and in Second Place…

SURPRISE! I’m back! I know I said I didn’t think I’d be able to post until Friday, but here I am, finding myself with some unexpected spare time! You know what that means? The return to the Golden Globe inspired stylings! Which means, as you know, that we get to find out who came in second place in your votes! Just as a reminder, Dianna Argon was our third place winner. Originally 43 women were included in the ballot that you voted on, so third place isn’t half bad! And you know what that means…second place really isn’t too shabby at all! So, once again, I ask: any guesses?

…

…

…

…

…

…

…

…

…

…

…

…

…

…

It’s Angelina Jolie!

This is certainly a stunning look, with a nod to the ’80s that totally works…it’s done in a lot more tasteful and classic way than you normally see. The overall silhouette is quite relaxed – the fabric is what really dresses it up. Even her hair is effortlessly simple but perfect! I think the aire of confidence Angelina exudes really is one of the best features of the look!

And onto the stylings!

Mantle Dynamics Dress – $148

Autumn’s Last Dance Necklace – $198

If-Looks-Could Booties – $298

This simplistic look channels Angelina’s look in that it is just that – simplistic and effortless. Imagine walking and letting just the tiniest bit of these shoes show as you stride…it’d be unexpected and add that little touch of “wow…who would have thought!” Doesn’t Angelina possess some of that?

Folded Wings Top (navy) – $48

Cobblestone Jacquard Skirt – $258

Pointelle Tights (black) – on sale for $9.95

Slices of Night Booties – $378

Llanddwyn Ring – $48

Pair this navy top with the textured black skirt to create interest. Adding a great pair of tights (although, admittedly, I would have gone with something more simple…but alas, Anthro did not have that) and some booties helps to finish off the look. The ring is the final touch!

Also, the dress I used in my New Year’s inspired styling could be a great piece to replicate Angelina’s dress (although I would go for slightly different accessories than what I used in the New Year’s look in order to achieve an Angelina-Golden-Globe-dress-esque look).

So, readers, which look is your favorite? And, once again, thanks for your patience during my absence!

The next few days (up until Friday) are going to be extremely busy for me…perhaps I’ll be able to post, but I can’t make any promises. As soon as I’m able to post, I’ll resume with our Golden Globe inspired looks. It’s a promise. I promise. Really. Thanks so much for your understanding! I really, really appreciate it!

The results are in! I now know the three lovely ladies’ dresses that will be used as inspiration for Anthro stylings! Are you excited?! I know I am!

Today, we’re going to look at our third place finisher….which is a very respectable place, considering there were a whopping 43 women who were included in the original ballot! Who is this lady?

….

….

….

….

….

….

….

….

….

….

….

….

It’s Dianna Argon! When asked, 88% of you said this look was perfect. The rest of you said meh…but none of you said you hated it! Sounds like it was a winner of a look!

As I said in my original review of the dress, I think it’s simple, understated, and extremely elegant! I’ll try my best to create a styling with this similar feeling! There are definitely many directions I could go…

Take Two Tee (navy) – $98

Pleats Galore Crops (black) – $98

Green’s Farm Flats – $148

Engineered Blooms Necklace – $168

Yes, I definitely took some liberties with this one; however, I still think the overall aesthetic integrity of Dianna’s look is still upheld with this look. Shall I explain? The slightly retro, but totally minimalistic top brings in the throwback element of Dianna’s look. The addition of the tailored black pants help gives a polished look, and the necklace adds a great touch, as well as referencing Dianna’s necklace (for both looks, the necklace is there, but not in your face). The shoes of this look definitely depart a bit from Dianna’s very simplistic, subdued color scheme, but that’s okay, right?! It adds to the original spin we put on this styling!

What do you think?

If you want to get the essense of Dianna’s look in one single piece of Anthro, try this:

Haramaki Tank (black) – $48 – The pleating on this definitely pays ode to the waist detailing of Dianna’s dress. It’s interesting, but still somewhat simple.

Fun Fact: Dianna was also voted by you to be used as inspiration for multiple stylings based on her Emmy dress. Check the post out here!
